Restoring A Backup From A Different System

Introduction

Sometimes it is essential to restore a backup of another system. For example, it may be necessary to use a copy of a customers database to diagnose faults. This section covers this process, and concludes with a short video.

Reset System

It is good practice to reset the testing system back to its default settings before restoring a backup from another system. This enables the user to restore the customer’s data without any conflicts.

  1. To reset the database, navigate to Settings > System Settings > Database Configuration and select reset. This will automatically create a backup of the database you are resetting, so that you can restore your original system once you have finished investigating the other system.

  2. There will be a Reset To Defaults confirmation message, and a password entered to proceed:

  3. The system will close and will be in a blank state when it it reopened.

  4. Restart the Witness Services:

Restore Backup

  1. The user will need to have a copy of a backup to restore in the Backup folder within ProgramData > Navtech on the server:

  2. Log into the blank system as the default admin user.

  3. The Site Configuration Wizard will appear. This is not required and can be cancelled:

  4. The user can restore the database. Navigate to Settings > System Settings > Database Configuration:

  5. Select the Restore option:

  6. Select the database to be restored and click Restore Database. The system will close, and then reopen with the login screen.

  7. Login as a normal user.

  8. Check the status of the Witness Services, starting any that are not running:

Deleting Unnecessary Track Engine and Modules

  1. Ensure Config Function is enabled. Navigate to Topology:

  2. Due to the restore process, there will be additional Track Engine, Management Server, Camera Controllers and Integration Services modules without an address or any process values. These will need to be deleted.

  3. Select the module to be deleted and check to see if there are any items that need to be unassigned. In the example below there is a radar which needs to be unassigned before the module is deleted. Click the Unassign All Items icon:

  4. Then click the Shutdown icon:

  5. Select OK to the Confirm message:

  6. The option to Delete the module will then be enabled, and a confirmation message will be given to delete:

  7. Select OK to confirm:

  8. The user will then need to reallocate the Unassigned Items into the correct module, for example, radar into the Track Engine:

  9. Repeat this process for the Management Servers, then Camera Controllers and Integration Services remembering to Unassign All Items if there are any:
