Single Carriageways
Introduction
This section deals with the creation of a virtual single carriageway with bidirectional lanes.

Single Carriageways
In the example below, there is a single carriageway for left-hand traffic travelling in different directions:
Drawing a Carriageway
First, you will need to plot your carriageway. For a single carriageway you will need to plot your route against the left-hand side of the road rather than down the centre as in the image below:
Please continue following the guidance for drawing a carriageway covered here: Adding Carriageways | Drawing a Carriageway.
Carriageway Configuration
Once your initial carriageway is plotted, return to the Create and Draw New Carriageway window. Now you can configure the carriageway and its Rules.
For a single carriageway with a right-hand and a left-hand lane, firstly ensure you deselect the Create Dual Carriageway option.
Ensure you set the appropriate number of lanes for you single carriageway, in this case 2. This means it will be one lane in one direction and the second lane in the reverse direction.
Clear the Use Single Lane Width check box and the options for Reversed Lanes is now available for Lanes 1 and 2:
For left-hand traffic, select the Reversed Lanes option for lane 2. For right-hand traffic, select the Reverse Lanes option for lane 1.
Return to the PPI and ensure that the carriageway follows the route correctly. Please refer to the notes regarding plotting a carriageway Creating and Editing Entities.
Complete the Create and Draw New Carriageway Wizard (information regarding the other Rules cane be found Adding Carriageways) and Save.
In the example below you can see the new carriageway with two lanes; with arrows in orange showing the direction of the traffic:
Once the carriageway has been configured, the Reverse Direction setting can be seen in the Carriageway Settings:
Each lane has its own tab, select the appropriate lane to ensure the reverse direction is correct:
Please note that when showing the lanes, the tabs use a zero-based index, therefore the first lane will 0, the second lane will be 1 and so. This has no impact on how the lane is reported in alarms. Lanes can be identified using their name or the User ID.
