Creating a New Project

To create a new project:

  1. Select the New Project button:

  2. You will be presented with the New Project screen:

The screen is split into two sections.  The top section contains project information, such as its name and description. The larger lower section displays a map.

Project Details

The new project will have the following fields to complete, and it makes sense to make them meaningful for your project:

Project Name: The name of your project.

Project Description: A brief description about your project.

Application Description: The name of the application that you will be using, e.g. AdvanceGuard®.

Customer: The name of your customer.

Here is an example:

Locating your Site

The next step is to locate your site on the map.

At the top right of the map there is a search box. It is linked directly to Google Maps, so anything you can find with Google Maps can be found here.

When you type into the box, Google will populate a drop down list with possible results:

You can also search for a company name or an address instead.

If you do not have an address, but you have latitude and longitude co-ordinates, you can use this in the search box to find your site.

The format should be like this:

51.590555, -1.387478

Note: this is in decimal degrees and the lat/long values are separated by a comma. Certain tools, like Google Earth will provide coordinates in minutes and degrees by default (i.e. 51°35'26.0"N 1°23'14.9"W). We can't support this format but you can normally change the application settings to provide the coordinates in decimal degrees.

Once you select the result, the map will be updated with a map marker showing the location.

This marker can be dragged to the centre of your site.

To drag it, simply click and hold the left mouse button on the marker and drag it around the map:

Google Map Type

You have a choice of two map types:

Map: By default, Map mode will be displayed. This is a stylised map, showing roads and basic landscape details. There is also an option to enable terrain if you select it.

This map is very useful if you are creating a plan for a city area, where information about buildings and other structures are not usually present.

Satellite: This displays the Google satellite image of the area. There is an option to show labels which is selected by default.

Clicking the button which is not in bold type will change the map type.

Create

Once you have completed all of the Project Details, the Create button will be enabled:

Once you press the Create button, your project will be saved to the database and you will be returned to the Project Dashboard:

On Hold: This status is useful when you waiting for more information on a project, such as feedback about a proposal of radar locations.

Closed: The status of Closed is used once you are no longer actively working on the project.

When you select a different status this change will be reflected in the Project Dashboard, and can be used to filter your projects:
