Adding Cameras

Introduction

This section provides an explanation on how to add Cameras through the New Create New Camera Wizard, and the different options it presents.

Adding a Camera

  1. Enable theĀ Config Function.Ā

  2. In theĀ Configuration Tree, select theĀ Camera GroupĀ you wish theĀ CameraĀ to belong to.

  3. In theĀ Configuration Panel, selectĀ New, then selectĀ Camera.

  4. TheĀ Create New Camera WizardĀ will appear in a new window. From theĀ CameraĀ dropdown, select from the available cameras. Cameras will be automatically detected via Custom installation in the Setup. If your camera is not in the dropdown, then you must re-install Witness. SelectĀ Finish.

TheĀ CameraĀ will appear in the chosenĀ Camera GroupĀ in theĀ Configuration Tree, and also on theĀ PPI Display.Ā

Now you must position and orientate the camera. This can be done by inputting latitude and longitude in theĀ Camera DetailsĀ in theĀ Configuration Panel,Ā or directly onto theĀ PPI Display:

To adjust theĀ CameraĀ on theĀ PPI Display:

  1. Ctrl+ClickĀ to move theĀ Camera.

  2. Ctrl+ClickĀ to move theĀ Home PositionĀ (represented by a star).

  3. Adjust theĀ CameraĀ through theĀ Camera Settings:
X/Y/Z (m): the relative position of the camera to the origin, within the PPI Display, measured by an X/Y/Z octant.

Latitude/Longitude (Ā°): the true geographical position of the camera.

TheĀ PositionĀ of theĀ Camera,Ā represented by a green icon, must match the location of the physical camera, whereas theĀ Home PositionĀ (a star) is placed within theĀ Camera'sĀ field of rotation and dictates the direction theĀ CameraĀ faces when at rest, also referred to as its Home Position. In the example below, theĀ PositionĀ is close to theĀ Radar,Ā and theĀ Home PositionĀ is around mid-way between theĀ Camera'sĀ angle of scope/vision. TheĀ Home PositionĀ is focused on a tree. You must select an object visible and recognisable both on theĀ Map/Background ImageĀ and in the radar data for an initialĀ Home Position.Ā This is critical for camera alignment. Aligning a Camera

  5. Input the correctĀ Connection Details,Ā depending on the camera make, model and protocol:
Address:Ā Defines the IP address of the camera.

User Name:Ā User details to access connection.

Password:Ā Security password to access connection.

Security Mode:Ā The security protocols available for the camera connection. There are four options:

Auto: Uses both digest and username token authentication.

Digest: Confirms the identity of a user before sending sensitive information. It applies a hash function to the username and password as a form of encryption before sending them over the network.

Username Token: An authentication technique that lets users enter their username and password once and receive a uniquely-generated encrypted token in exchange, which in turn identifies the user to the camera.

    None.

  6. SelectĀ Save.

For the camera to work it must be assigned to a Camera Controller Assigning a Camera. Assigning the camera to the controller ensures it connects and therefore enables PTZ control and will also help create a viewer by interrogating the camera for stream options, assuming this option is supported.
