Adding a Camera

Introduction

This page covers adding a new camera to the system. You can add any number of cameras, including static cameras from our list of supported devices. For a full list of supported cameras please refer to https://navtechradar.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/TUN/pages/774701059.

Cameras are licenced on a count basis, therefore the licence must include the appropriate allowance for the number of cameras you intend to control. If you reach the licence limit the wizard will prevent you from adding more cameras.

Adding a Camera

To add a Camera:

  1. Enable the Config Function. In the Configuration Tree, select the Camera Group you wish the Camera to belong to. See https://navtechradar.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/TUN/pages/790069518 for more information.

  2. In the Configuration Panel, select New, then select Camera.

  3. The Create New Camera Wizard will appear in a new window. From the Camera dropdown, select from the available cameras. Cameras will be automatically detected via Custom installation in the Setup. If your camera is not in the dropdown, then you must re-install Witness. Select Finish.

     

  4. The Camera will appear in the chosen Camera Group in the Configuration Tree, and also on the PPI Display. Now you must position and orientate the camera. This can be done by inputting latitude and longitude in the Camera Details in the Configuration Panel, or directly onto the PPI Display:

     

  5. To adjust the Camera on the PPI Display:

    1. Ctrl+Click to move the Camera.

    2. Ctrl+Click to move the Home Position (represented by a star).

    3. If enabled in the https://navtechradar.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/TUN/pages/777158872, there is a Camera Mode Change toggle which allows the user to switch between Automatic and Manual camera mode. This option means that an operator can quickly take manual control of a camera to follow a target and then once they have finished their task, can return the camera to the Automatic setting, without having to change the Operating Mode within Camera Details.

  6. To adjust the Camera through the Camera Settings:

    1. X/Y/Z (m): The relative position of the camera to the origin, within the PPI Display, measured by an X/Y/Z octant.

    2. Latitude/Longitude (°): The true geographical position of the camera.

  7. The Position of the Camera, represented by a green icon, must match the location of the physical camera, whereas the Home Position (a star) is placed within the Camera's field of rotation and dictates the direction the Camera faces when at rest: 'Dwell'. In the example below, the Position is close to the Radar, and the Home Position is around mid-way between the Camera's angle of scope/vision. The Home Position is focused on a tree. You must select an object visible and recognisable both on the Map/Background Image and in the radar data for an initial Home Position. This is critical for .

     

     

     

  8. Input the correct Connection Details, depending on the camera make, model and protocol - :

     

  9. Select Save.
