Adding a Screen Background

Introduction

Viewing the active elements of the system is made considerably more straightforward if you can view a scaled image of the area in the background. There are two types of background images; Static or Dynamic.

Static Screen Background

Some systems may have been configured to have a Static background image if, for example, they do not have access to the internet. Please refer to Adding a Background Image for further information.

If this is the case, and you have the correct permissions, you may add this image to your background, by following these steps:

  1. Open the System Menu, select the User to open the User Details screen.

  2. Click on the Background Display tab and click Edit:

    Ā

  3. Select Display Background Image and click Save:

    Ā

  4. Close the User Details screen and there will be a new Map Opacity option within the PPI Navigation Control:

    Ā

  5. Moving the slider to the right will make the background image more visible:

    Ā

When you add a background image and save click 'Finish' on the wizard, the image is sent to the management server and saved to the database as well as being written out to the file system in ProgramData/Navtech/BackgroundImage/BackgroundImage.dat. If the database is reset, or you login to the UI from a different machine, when opening the Background Image Wizard it will check both the database and the file system for the image. If it finds the image in the database it will return it, otherwise it will return the image if it is saved to disk.

Dynamic Screen Background

Dynamic screen backgrounds use Open Street Map or Google Map, which requires the internet.

If you have been granted the necessary permissions you can enable this feature following these steps:

  1. Open the System Menu, select the User to open the User Details screen.

  2. Click on the Background Display tab and click Edit:

    Ā

  3. Select the desired Background Map Type. In the example below Google Map has been chosen:

    Ā

  4. You can then select the Google Map Tile Type: Displaying a Map

    Ā

  5. Then click Save.

  6. Close the User Details screen and there will be a new Map Opacity option within the PPI Navigation Control:

    Ā

  7. Moving the slider to the right will make the background image more visible:
