MAS10

Revolutionising marine autonomy with high resolution W-band radar

Introducing MAS10 from Navtech Radar, a breakthrough in marine autonomy. Using 76-77GHz FMCW radar technology, it offers exceptional 360° situational awareness, detecting small targets like buoys and kayaks, in all weather conditions. With a 2Hz refresh rate, 1000m range, and cm-level resolution, MAS10 ensures fast, reliable detection in congested waters. It’s wide vertical beamwidth (16°), delivers a consistent radar image regardless of vessel pitch and roll motion.

Navtech Radar can now share the latest datasets from MAS10 sea trials. The radar was tested inside a congested marina, and in the open sea. Exceptional detail was observed in detections of surface objects such as sailing yachts, buoys, dinghies and canoes. It even detected mooring lines between boats. The radar was proven to deliver reliable detections even when subjected to 18° of vessel roll.

Travelling through a congested marina

Here, the radar is onboard a test vessel travelling though a congested marina, the video contains; Raw Radar data (green), processed Radar Data which has passed a simple threshold filter (red), and the chart plotter overlay is toggled.

Exiting a marina

Detecting sailing yachts, motor cruisers and navigation buoys to 1Km. The radar delivers a high definition image of the breakwater and other surroundings as we exit a marina into open sea.

Multiple targets in a bay

Passing through dozens of sailing yachts and small pleasure craft moored in a bay up to 1Km range.

Small dinghy manoeuvring nearby

A dinghy making passes ahead of the test boat within 10m range.

Fast turns with high Pitch / Roll

The test boat made high speed figure 8 turns around 2 large buoys. When subjected to up to 18° roll and 25 knots, the radar view remained consistent and tracked objects in view.

n.b. some objects lose line-of-sight to the radar when mast infrastructure obstructs the view astern from the boat.

Other scenarios

Canoes

2 small canoes separately detected at 230m

Mooring Lines

Detection of mooring lines between nearby sailboats
