Adjusting a radar for 8- or 16-bit depth raw output

Adjusting a radar for 8- or 16-bit depth raw output

Note that the use of 16-bit depth radar output should be considered an experimental mode of operating the radar. Full and correct performance at the associated elevated data rates is not validated as part of the radar firmware release process.

If the use of this additional depth is an operational requirement for your end-use of the radar, please contact us.

This brief video shows how to use the radar’s web user interface to configure the unit to produce 8- or 16-bit depth of raw output.

The message structure which presents raw radar output is described here TCP Networking | FFT/High Precision Data Message.

8-bit power values returned by a radar can be scaled to dB by dividing by 2

16-bit power values returned by a radar can be scaled as follows:
power in dB = (returned_value-11591)/256

Message type 30 provides 8-bit radar data and message type 31 presents 16-bit radar data. The different message types are shown in a table here.
