Connecting a radar sensor
Each radar sensor requires a power and a data connection. Both are made using special specification connectors to ensure link integrity in the harshest environmental conditions. In the majority of cases, the power and data connections run from the sensor to the enclosure at the base of the mounting pole where the power supply is situated.
Supplied with each radar sensor is a power cable with an outdoor connector for connection to the sensor and a bare end at the enclosure connection. An environmental shroud is also supplied for use with a suitable environmentally protected Ethernet network cable. It is essential that the supplied shroud is correctly used to ensure that the data connection is water tight.
IMPORTANT: Failure to correctly fit the shroud can invalidate the warranty on sensors that have been caused to fail through water ingress.
Connections to HDR radar series 200 & 300
On Series 200 and Series 300 HDR radar the connections are made underneath the units:
Remove the protective cap from the Ethernet connector and attach the RJ45 plug. Ensure that the weatherproof shroud on the Ethernet connector is secure.
Attach the 24V DC plug to the connector (by pushing it fully on and turning clockwise to lock).
Attach a suitable earth cable to the earthing point (requires an M5 bolt).
Ensure that the power and Ethernet cables are securely connected into a suitable junction box that has a suitable 24V DC power supply installed.
Note: The radar typically draws a continuous 800mA. Ensure that the Power supply cabling is correctly terminated.Ensure that the junction box has an Ethernet cable/fibre optic running to the infrastructure network switch.
When power is applied, ensure that the radar begins rotating - you can easily hear this, although it takes approximately 10 seconds for the radar to start rotating – in cold conditions this could be longer.

Connections to HDR radar series 100
On Series 100 HDR radar the connections are made on the side of the units:
Each radar requires a power and a network connection. These are both IP67 rated when correctly fitted.
If the radar is likely to be exposed to high pressure jet washing or washing with an added soap solution you should add additional protection to the connector fittings once attached. The application of a wax oil or non-corrosive silicone sealant to the connector joints after final installation should be utilised. Failure to do so in this situation could cause premature corrosion to the connectors, causing the radar to stop working due to incorrect installation.
IMPORTANT: The radar Ethernet protective cover must always be fitted if the Ethernet cable is not in place to ensure the integrity of the unit. Also loose cable ends should always be protected by sealing them against the environment when they are not connected to the radar.
To connect an HDR radar series 100 power and network
Remove the protective cap from the Ethernet connector on the radar and attach the RJ45 plug. Ensure that the weatherproof shroud on the Ethernet cable is sealed and secure to the radar.
Making sure first that the power is off, remove the protective cap from the connector of the radar power supply cable. Please keep this safe for reattachment should the radar need to be disconnected in the future. Attach the 24V DC plug to the radar connector by aligning the white marks on each and pushing it fully on, turning it clockwise to get a positive lock 'click'.
Attach a suitable earth cable to the earthing point (use M5 bolt, spring washer and plain washer supplied in bolt kit).
Ensure that the power and Ethernet cables are securely connected into a suitable junction box that has a suitable 24V DC power supply installed.
Note: The radar typically draws less than 1A. Ensure that the power supply cabling is correctly terminated.Ensure that the junction box has an Ethernet cable/fibre optic running to the infrastructure network switch.
