This section discusses the main aspects of the ClearWay™ Mobile Client display and how to navigate them.

The behaviour of the ClearWay™ Mobile Client will reflect the configuration of the ClearWay™ application. For example; a user logged into the Mobile Client will have the same permissions as in the main application. Unlike the main Windows application, these permissions cannot be set using the Mobile Client, they must be configured in the main client.



System Menu: Opens or closes the System Menu.

User: The logged in user.

Role: The user’s role.

Schematic Control: This allows you to choose between Live, Statistics or Playback options as well as the controls necessary for managing them.

Schematic: This is a simplified view of the carriageway, which includes approximate placements of the radar along it.

System Profile: The current selected System Profile. This can also act as a selector for a user with the relevant access to change the current profile. System Profiles

Live Alarm Icons: These interactive icons represent live alarm or queue incidents.

Notifications: Notifications will show for a short period before disappearing.

PPI Navigation Control: These are controls to help navigate around the map display, including pan (if the Home Style is set to Full) and return to origin.

Alert Overview: If enabled, the Live Alarm Alert icon (bell shape), icon will be displayed in a coded, solid colour if there are alarms. If there are no alarms, then the shape will have a black outline.

Display Options: You can choose views between the Dashboard, Map, System Alarms and Live Alarms.

PPI Map Display: This is the map display that provides you with situational awareness across your site, offering real time information on targets and incidents. This is shown when Map is selected from the Display Options.

Clicking on will open the System Menu:

This will open or close a moveable dialogue to navigate to parts of the site. There is a sort and a find / filter option to locate an entry quickly:

Double-clicking an entry will automatically move the map (if selected) to show the location of the entity.

This offers the following map styles:

Map: The default Google road map.

Satellite: The Google satellite map.

Terrain: The Google terrain map.

OSM: An alternative road map provided by Open Street Map.

This allows the choice of a simple or full PPI Navigation Control:

Simple: The user can navigate using the keyboard or mouse and return to the origin:

Full: The user can also navigate around the map using the pan arrows:

These fields display the logged in User name and their Role and are static.

To logout of the system, open the System Menu to access the Logout button at the bottom of the screen:

It is possible to change the System Profile:

  1. Click on the entry:

  2. This will open the Change System Profile dialogue:

  3. Providing you have access, you can then quickly change the Profile as required.

This is a simplified diagram of your carriageways in grid form, with each carriageway allocated a row, and each section allocated a column along that row.

Each radar is represented by a radar icon and placed along the carriageway grid to replicate their placement on the real carriageway.

You can change the size of the schematic by scrolling your mouse, and you can Click+Drag to change the viewable areas of the carriageway.

The Live screen displays the configured lanes separated by a white dashed line. The direction of the traffic is marked using arrows similar to the PPI Map.

Representations of moving vehicles / targets and any stopped vehicles are displayed along the carriageway as they would on the PPI Map within the main ClearWay™ UI:

Clicking on a section of a carriageway will highlight that section in pink and will open an info panel with the carriageway name and section number, and includes details of the number of vehicles and large vehicles currently in that section, with their average speed in m/s, with their average speed in m/s, and their average travel time:

The bell icon will change colour from white to orange or red for any section based alarms for the selected section. The queue icon signifies if there is a queue detected in the section:

Double-clicking on a section will synchronise with the map to focus onto that area, providing that the map is selected for the lower display:

This screen also displays any alarms in real time. For example, if there are warnings or threats given along a section or sections, then any effected lane/section blocks on the grid will be highlighted in orange or red respectively:

The density of the traffic is also illustrated; a light blue area of a segment indicates above average density. The depth of blue colour and size of the area within the segment grows when the density increases as in the example below:

Dotted outlines on a carriageway section signifies radar coverage. Red represents no coverage, orange is for partial coverage:

Beneath the Schematic area there is a panel to display interactive icons representing live alarm or queue incidents.

In the example below the two icons on the left-hand side show the number of live incidents (3 alarms and 6 queues), and the icons grouped on their right then display each incident in time order.

Clicking on an icon will synchronise with the map to focus onto that area, providing that the map is selected for the lower display. It will also will synchronise with the Schematic to focus on the effected lane/section blocks on the grid.

The default layout of the schematic has approximate placements of objects such as radar and POI’s. To allow you more flexibility, there are schematic controls which offer the following options:

Edit: This allows you to edit the position of some of objects which are stored in the active layer of the main ClearWay™ UI. For example, you can move the position of radar or POI’s by using your mouse to drag them into the desired place.

Save: This option allows you to save your edits.

Cancel: This allows you to cancel any edits that have not been saved.

The Dashboard is the default lower display on the Mobile Client. It presents 3 graphs showing alarms, travel times and the average speed of the traffic along the Carriageways. The graphs are automatically updated every 10 seconds.

The Alarms donut chart displays the number of alarms given over the selected period. The chart is broken down into carriageways allowing you to see at a glance how many alarms have been given per carriageway.

This graph displays the average journey travel times for each carriageway, at regular intervals during the selected period.

Clicking on the name of a carriageway will deselect / select that carriageway allowing you to view particular carriageways on their own:

You can use your mouse to hover over points along the graph to display a tooltip showing the carriageway, date, time and average travel time for the journey:

This graph displays the average speed for each carriageway, at regular intervals during the selected period.

Clicking on the name of a carriageway will deselect / select that carriageway allowing you to view particular carriageway speeds:

By default, this display covers 24 hours, but you can also select a period of 48 or 72 hours by selecting the desired time period:

The example below is using the Google satellite map:

The map displays items overlaid upon it in a similar fashion to its counterpart PPI Map on the main ClearWay™ application:

  • Configured carriageways and sections

  • Elements within the ClearWay™ active layer such as radar and POI’s - see Layers

  • Representations of moving vehicles / targets

  • Stopped vehicles

  • Alarm overview

  • Alarms will be displayed as they occur upon the relevant area of the map

In the example below, the Alarm Overview shows a flashing red bell, the section of the traffic that has an alarm is highlighted red and there is a stopped car graphic in the Emergency Area, and a notification giving more information regarding the alarm is displayed for 10 seconds:

You can navigate using the Home style keys to pan and return to the home position:

You can also use your mouse to zoom in and out and Click+Drag to move the map.

Double-clicking on particular sections, radar, points of interest etc. on the map will synchronise with the Schematic to focus on that area.

Clicking on a radar will show the boundary of the radar range in pink and will open an info panel displaying the radar name and User ID as in the example below:

This panel displays system alarms which are typically health and configuration alarms. These are only raised if a problem has been detected with the overall operation of the system.

These can be sorted by clicking the sort option within each list.

Alarm ID: The unique alarm ID.

Description: This will list the effected radar, track engine etc with a description of the issue.

Created: The date and time the alarm was raised.

Actions: This will show any actions that can be or have been taken.

This panel displays the highway alarms which are currently active. These would typically be triggered in response to an incident that requires a response.

ID: The unique alarm ID.

Description: This displays the classification of the target, the carriageway, section and lane where the alarm was raised.

Created: The date and time the alarm was raised.

Acknowledged: This will show the date and time if the alarm has been acknowledged.

Actions: This will show any actions that can be or have been taken.
