Introduction

This page covers the installation and configuration of the IFF AIS plugin which enables AdvanceGuard® to receive data via your AIS receivers. The Automatic Identification System (AIS) is an automatic tracking system that uses transceivers on ships for locating them.

This plugin enables AdvanceGuard® to display the AIS targets on the map using the appropriate identifier and classification icon. In addition AdvanceGuard® will correlate incoming AIS target updates with the radar targets allowing known targets to be automatically marked as friendly meaning they will not trigger alarms. The ability to control which AIS targets are treated as friend or foe is configurable and can be based on the unique Id or the classification.

Overview

The IFF AIS Plugin allows the system to receive tracks from AIS devices. The management server seamlessly integrates with the Witness AdvanceGuard® software enabling operators to see friendly targets on the map interface, but more importantly, this data is correlated with the radar tracks enabling the software to match targets detected by the radar with friendly targets reported by the AIS system. This ensures AdvanceGuard® knows which are friendly targets and which are potential threats thus dramatically reducing nuisance alarms.  

The IFF AIS Plugin

Witness supports integration with many different types of external systems through the use of plugins.

The plugin can be selected during setup and will automatically be installed in the correct location.

When installingAdvanceGuard®, in the Choose Components page of the AdvanceGuard® Setup wizard, open Integration Plugin options and select IFF AIS:

When the plugin is installed and licensed, a plugin configuration with default settings is automatically generated. The settings can be viewed and edited by enabling the Config Function, then selecting the plugin in Integration Configurations, within the Configuration Tree. Configuration settings will then be available in the Configuration Panel. 

Plugin Enabled: Select to enable the Plugin.

Name: The IFF AIS Plugin name.

IP Address: The IFF AIS Server address.

Port: The Transmission Control Protocol port used for the server.

AIS Devices

Name: The name of the selected AIS device.

Primary MSSI: Maritime Mobile Service Identities (MMSIs) are nine digit numbers used by AIS to uniquely identify a ship or a coast radio station.

Secondary MSSI: The secondary MSSI
