Introduction

The information published on these pages is intended to supplement the documentation published elsewhere on this site. These pages are focusing on how to setup and configure the Milestone XProtect Smart Client to enable the WebUI to be displayed within a panel in the Smart Client Live view.

Unless specifically noted, references to the Milestone application or Milestone also apply to the Siemens Siveillance solution.

Working with the Mobile Server Self-Signed Certificate

Before attempting to setup and configure XProtect Smart Client, the self-signed certificate that is issued Mobile Server will need to be installed in the appropriate certificate store.

First Login

  1. Your first attempt to login to the Management Server via the WebUI will probably result in a warning message being displayed, similar to what we see here:

     

  2. Proceed to the site by clicking on Advance:

     

  3. And then Continue to 10.77.40.171 (unsafe):

     

You will need to connect to the WebUI via https.

Install the certificate

We can see from the certificate that, once it is installed, to connect to the Mobile Server we can use either the IP address 10.77.40.171 or the name RPU-TEST-MILEST:

XProtect Smart Client & Chromium Browsers

At the time of writing the Milestone XProtect Smart Client 2020 R1 application did not support a Chromium browser being used as a plug-in within a panel in the Live view, and therefore an 3rd party Chromium plug-in needs to be installed. We have found that the Joshua Hendricks, Cascadia Technology LLC “Modern Browser Plugin” to work and can be downloaded from https://github.com/cascadia-technology/ModernBrowser/releases .

Installing the Modern Browser Plugin

The Cascadia Technology “Modern Browser Plugin” will need to be installed along with the Milestone XProtect Smart Client application. Once installed, a “Modern Browser” option is added to the System Overview section of the XProtect pane within the Smart Client.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Setting up the Modern Browser Plugin

Once installed, the Modern Browser plug in this dragged into the desired pane and initially nothing will be displayed:

Enter the URL into the Address field within the Properties, in our example https://rpu-test-milest:8443/
